US, UK, Australia, Canada, Indonesia Share Most about Earth Day 2016

On this 46th anniversary of Earth Day, one marking the signing of the historic Paris Agreement, VizSense tracked social media conversation and sharing around the promoter and coordinator of the Earth Day movement worldwide, The Earth Day Network, in the seven days leading up to Earth Day 2016.

Through shares on Twitter, The Earth Day network’s website achieved a total network reach of 14,000,000 across 175 domains and was shared on Twitter 3,200 times, achieving a Twitter reach of 6,000,000.

There were a number of influencers and organizations that helped achieve the network reach of 14,000,000. The top five Twitter users follow:

  1. @jokoanwar
  2. @nonprofitorgs
  3. @MariosKaratzias 
  4. @usembassyjkt
  5. @CambUP_lifesci

Interestingly, two entrepreneurs achieved the first and third largest Twitter network reach. @jokoanwar, a filmmaker based in Indonesia, had the greatest network reach with 1,000,000 and @marioskaratzias, a startup entepreneur based in Greece achieved a network reach of 540,000.

With 193 countries celebrating Earth Day this year, the 10 countries with the most social media shares follow:

United States: 1,280 shares achieving a network reach of 5,720,000

United Kingdom: 680,000 shares achieving a network reach of 1,900,600

Australia: 156 shares achieving a network reach of 812,000

Canada: 152 shares achieving a network reach of 399,000

Indonesia: 140 shares achieving a network reach of 1,800,100

India: 117 shares achieving a network reach of 194,000

South Africa: 112 shares achieving a network reach of 561,000

Spain: 106 shares achieving a network reach of 251,000

Netherlands: 44 shares achieving a network reach of 46,000

Italy: 42 shares achieving a network reach of 42,000
